Description

With this guided and private tour you can discover the hidden Venice, the authentic one in its everyday life. Sestiere di Cannaregio is undoubtedly the most populated area of Venice: this is where most of the city's citizens live and is the most authentic part of the city.

This district is also a cradle of incredible treasures, wonders of art and architecture. You will visit the famous Jewish ghetto, which still characterises an entire area of the Sestiere di Cannaregio: the Jewish setteled in Venice gave rise to what became the first Jewish ghetto in history, the term of which is now used in all languages. The heart of the ghetto is undoubtedly Campo del Ghetto Nuovo, accessed by a magnificent cast-iron bridge surrounded by two symmetrical red-brick sentry boxes, a symbol and reminder of forced isolation and surveillance. Then there is the Campo del Ghetto Vecchio, which has the distinction of being newer than the Campo del Ghetto Nuovo.

Crossing Campo dei Mori, the Sestiere di Cannaregio gives us a truly incredible scenographic surprise: from a narrow space enclosed by tall buildings suddenly opens up before our eyes one of Venice's religious buildings, the Church of the Madonna dell'Orto, accessed by crossing a simple stone bridge. The visual impact is magnificent and exciting, as the Church is revealed in all its imposing bulk and red mantle.
